Bonding

Breastfeeding has given me a special bond with my child that I don't feel could have been achieved any other way. Although I understand the bond is not always there between mother and child. So you shouldn't feel as if there is something wrong if it feels ackward and uncomfortable or just not right. Talking to other mothers at a local group is a big help as you'll meet people who have and haven't breastfed their children, and discover you have things in common.

Use your breastfeeding councillor

While in hospital after the delivery I was visited by the breastfeeding councillor, and she was fantastic with tips on technique and what to expect. She gave me an information card with a phone number for the breastfeeding councillor service, my advice is - USE IT.

When feeding was going wrong after sleepless nights it was difficult to keep going without feeling disappointed or a failure. My partner reminded me of the breastfeeding service and encouraged me to give them a call. I did and it was just a big relief to talk to another mother who has been in the same situation. I was offered plenty of encouragement and gently reminded of the technique.

The service in my area was 24 hours so it was great to know there was a mother on call!

Is it a crime?

The government encourages mothers to breast feed, this is administrated by your local health authority, however in the world outside the department of Health breast feeding can be seen as an obscene act!

The natural way of feeding seems to only be mentioned in Pregnancy with no effort to increase awareness in the general environmment.

I'd like to share my experience and make reconmendation on this site to hopefully help the influence reach the general public and business.
